94 / 100"An even glowing ruby colour with a riper more exotic nose than the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes. Ripe cherries are part of the fruit mix. Some white peppers at the back, this is engagingly complete with good length, and still a couple of tannins to resolve – very promising. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted: December 2023."

"This wine is compellingly lovely, particularly for a village-level bottling. The climat of Les Etalois is just below the band of grand crus, and the 0.40 hectares of Rossignol-Trapet are between Domaine Duroché and the Charmes-Chambertin holding of Domaine Roty. In 2022, it yielded a wine with a deep ruby colour and a lovely, rich cassis fruit aroma scented with spice and smoke. The texture is supple, dense, and pleasantly persistent. The wine is currently ageing in cask (20% new), and should be ready to drink fairly soon and will easily continue to improve in bottle for a decade or more."

Tasting Notes
Brothers David and Nicolas Rossignol run this 100% Organic and Biodynamically farmed Domaine located in the very heart of Gevrey Chambertin. Very early to the Sustainable farming movement, all the family's vineyards, located in some of the most impressive vineyards in Burgundy, were converted to Certified Organic in 2004.
The Rossignols bought this parcel in 1997 and the vines are now about 50 years old. The Rossignol-Trapet 0.35 hectare parcel is in the triangle that protrudes in between Griotte and Charmes. They are village vines rubbing shoulders with Grands Crus.
This is the only parcel the domaine bottles separately from the other Gevrey village parcels. That is thanks to its quite incredible situation, and the consistency of quality it delivers every year. It is sandwiched just between grands crus Charmes-Chambertin and Griotte-Chambertin. It’s almost unbelievable it’s only a village lieu-dit. The Rossignol-Trapet vines lie right alongside the Joseph Roty Charmes Vieilles Vignes parcel, but the soil is more like Griotte-Chambertin just to the north. There is just a hint of black fruit depth combined with the red fruit freshness, something reminiscent of cassis and cherries. The tannins are well-formed, offering structure and frame with a slight broodiness, but not imposing too heavily on the fruit. Very fine.
