95 / 100"Just as good, yet more classic in style, the 2006 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis offers up full-bodied richness and loads of texture to go with knockout aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, licorice, violets and assorted wild flower-like qualities. It has fabulous purity, solid mid-palate concentration and great acidity. Drink it anytime over the coming decade or more."

"Vivid ruby. Red and dark berry preserves and spice cake on the nose, with complicating floral qualities that gain strength with air. Very fresh, with intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors supported by a firm spine of minerality. Fine-grained and nimble, with admirable finishing clarity and precision."

"Still a touch tight, this builds slowly, with tangy red and black currant fruit married to dark olive notes. There's a tarry edge on the finish, with lingering iron and espresso notes that gain steam nicely as they air in the glass."

Tasting Notes
A dark and deep color with purple reflections. Spice, black fruits and delicate oak aromas. The nose is dense, expressive and intense. A tannic and racy wine with notes of plums, blackberries and vanilla. The palate is powerful, concentrated and structured. A wine from a muscular and tannic vintage wrought by a warm climate. The tannins are very strong but softened by a long oak aging.
