97 / 100"A magnificent offering; the fabulously fragrant bouquet shows dark berry aromas with dried herb, warm spice, flint, almond and floral notes, followed by a impeccably focused palate that offers outstanding weight and depth. It is multi-layered and symphonic, as well as firmly structured, promising to evolve graciously. From the Brancott Valley district."

"A strong red-cherry nose with a deep sense of complexity that is, for now, tightly buried in this young pinot. There is plenty of spice and earthy sous bois to come with some more time. The pedigree is instantly seen on the palate with an enthralling interplay of power and elegance. Long, fresh and pure cherries and red plums fold through layers of fine tannins. Drink in 2023. *Top 100 New Zealand Wines of 2018*"

"Bright, fresh, high energy Pinot Noir with cherry, fresh herb, floral, red rose, and spicy oak flavours. Fromm's best known Pinot Noir showing good concentration and consistency, the benefits, perhaps, of vine age."

"Hints of struck flint and pencil shavings join black cherries on the nose of the 2017 Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir. Medium to full-bodied, with a dry, dusty, firm finish marked by sturdy tannins, this wine needs at least 2-3 years in the cellar to soften and fill out."

"Evolving beautifully, with dark cherry, wet earth, floral and mineral notes. Beautifully structured, ambitious and well made wine. ("

Tasting Notes
The 2017 Fromm Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir is a New Zealand wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Clayvin Vineyard in Marlborough. The vineyard is located on clay soils, which gives the wine its dark red/blue fruit, floral, spice, and mineral aromas. The wine has a structured, persistent yet velvety palate with flavors of dark fruit, plum, cassis, and blackberries. It is a full-bodied wine with a long finish.
The 2017 vintage was a good year for Pinot Noir in Marlborough, with warm days and cool nights. This allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with good acidity and concentration. The Clayvin Vineyard is one of the most highly regarded Pinot Noir vineyards in Marlborough, and the 2017 vintage is a showcase for the site's potential.
