96 / 100"G110 is a single clone riesling. It's intense and drives with great energy, chalky pucker and a strong sense of minerality. It feels very pent up, so tightly wound, strong with lime juice, green apple tang and pink grapefruit zestiness, but all of that bound in this saline and talc-like crunch and chew. Aromatics are a little scarce at present, but you know the wine needs time and will open up gloriously. It leaves a little residual nuttiness/yeastiness with each sip and is pleasing in its faint savouriness. A lot going on here, and impressive from the first sip."

"A rare single-clone (clone 110) riesling. When the 2021 was released there were 110 bottles costing $110 each. The G belongs to Georgie, Jeffrey Grosset and Stephanie Toole’s daughter, who suggested bottling it separately. The follow-up vintage (with a higher price) is just as impressive, still restrained and delicate at this tender stage but promising much. A powerful bouquet of yeast esters, anise-like spice notes and a suggestion of coriander/herb. A quietly very intense wine with a properly dry finish and youthful flavour that will build in character as it matures. So much fruit! (Screwcap)"

Tasting Notes
Purity, drive, a vibrant quality that gives us pause. There is power that builds, a precise line that follows through to a remarkable length. This clone of riesling lends itself to a winemaking philosophy that utilises smaller bunches for greater fruit concentration, complexity and lift on the palate from extended lees maturation. Flavours in the apple spectrum with underlying power, full in the mid-palate with hints of creamy complexity and lingering white fruit intensity, its texture is layered, as the clone celebrates its unique qualities with the occasional surprise.
For 40 years, Grosset have crushed and fermented various clones of riesling separately. These clonal components are typically blended or reunited according to the source vineyard, prior to bottling. Having a vineyard planted to a mix of clones has been shown to contribute to the consistency and complexity of the single vineyard rieslings. Four years ago, Jeffrey’s daughter Georgie suggested they bottle a few dozen o
