Scores

97 / 100

"Elegantly detailed and powerful with a strong spicy thread that carries a web of terroir-derived interest. The deeply spicy oak draws out the fruit's inherent nature. Eden Valley sage and caramelized charcuterie with a core of blackberry and plum fruits. Modern and authentic but not quite as multi-dimensional as the Hill of Grace. However, it still shows all the swagger and focused power that comes from this part of the Eden Valley. Ballet-like poise and class. Superb now, but better from 2020"

"From Shiraz vines that are not yet old enough to go into Hill of Grace. Lovely gamey, beefy nose. Spice aplenty with savoury, dry fruit that has a touch of desiccation. Long, dark, dense and full of Aussie richness."

Tasting Notes

Hill of Roses is produced from a mass selection from the Grandfather vines in the Hill of Grace Vineyard, planted as a nursery block in 1989 by Prue Henschke. These vines were a mere 12 years old when the wine was first produced in 2001 and while the vines are too young to be considered for inclusion in Hill of Grace, the quality of fruit from this selection has produced a wine that warrants a separate bottling and limited release.
