"Medium to full ruby colour, just grading to garnet on the rim. The bouquet is chocolaty, rich, ripe and has touches of charred oak which carry through to the palate. Sweet dark berries, too. Gently drying tannins. Savoury aftertaste lingers well. Nice wine, but it's more a matter of chocolate and vanilla than spices."

"This Grenache is made in only the best years, from dry-farmed, old bush vines in the Watervale subregion of Clare. It opens with bushels of luscious blueberry and cherry fruit, violets and a soft underbelly of baking spice. The palate has a silky texture, with savory tannins and a spicy, cinnamon-bark note to add another layer to the plush primary fruit. There's a bit of alcohol heat, particularly on the finish, but overall it's the kind of midweight Grenache that's put this variety on the modern Aussie map."

Tasting Notes

Kilikanoon Duke Grenache 2016 - Very much a sentimental favourite, the Duke is carefully blended from two single Grenache vineyards in Watervale, aged 72 and 78 years respectively. Both vineyards dry farmed, hand pruned and hand harvested.

Brick red in colour with brilliant crimson hues. A classy and defined palate, balancing length, mouthfeel and structure. The old vine power and intensity on display, featuring the combined complexity of dark chocolate, sweeter berry flavours, subtle savouriness and older French barrel spices, nicely supported by fine grained tannins.
