"Longhop Ravine has a distinctly Wild West theme about it. Tumbleweeds. A little bit wild to smell, in a good way, lemon/lime, a spray of aromatic green herb (including fennel tips), some brine and citrus flower. It’s a little saline, a cinch of lemon peel bitterness, green apple and lime, slightly nutty too, with a firm chalky texture, and excellent length. A sour green apple and citrus tang, with plenty of crunch and pithy grip closes it out. Such good mouth-feel and character. Yes."

"Longhop is one of two labels produced by Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland at their winery in the unfashionable Adelaide Plains area north of Adelaide. Old Plains wines are made from old vineyards in the area that survived the vine pull scheme of the 1980s as well as urban expansion, while Longhop wines include wines made from fruit grown in the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa. Dom and Tim describe their approach as ‘wine made by flavour not by numbers.’ The wines are small-scale productions, hand-made. This Riesling is a good example, crisp and fresh, citrus and green apples, less aromatic than most but fuller and rounder on the mid-palate, with a hint of chalk in the texture. Free of artifice. 93 points. BUY."

Tasting Notes

Tim Freeland and Domenic Torzi source this Riesling from two unique Adelaide Hills' vineyards. Sited in the fluvial hamlets of Forreston and Kenton Valley.

Coupled with their non-interventional, vegan friendly approach to winemaking, Longhop wines are fresh, generous and full of flavour.

Crisp lemon, lime, apple and pith. Lovely texture and length fills out the palate. A terrific all-rounder suited to an array of both Asian & Mediterranean inspired seafood, vegetable and white meat dishes.
