96 / 100"Big bouquet of char and tar, old spice cupboard, wet bark, sour-sweet plums, undergrowth and dried meat. Wonderful, evocative scents that take you to Roger Pike’s front porch and gulping in the air of the gnarly vineyard tucked away in strands of natives trees. Chewy, rich, dark berried, slightly jellied fruit set in a burr of crushed rock tannin. Grip and grunt, a curmudgeonly wine of depth, richness and complexity, but all the savouriness. Man, this is good gear."

"While the Symphony of the same vintage is a ‘better wine’, as such, this is the one that speaks to me most directly. It’s all blackberry and beef, a ferrous feel, with deep silty tannin, scrub herb and hazelnut, clean acidity through its core, a blueberry succulence, a rare ‘mineral’ feel to it, very little in the way of winemaking edifice, and a long cool finish that speaks of stones and earth, and special places where the best grapes grow. Beautiful."

Tasting Notes
This is Roger Pike's racier Shiraz from vines on the outer perimeter of the Marius vineyard. Age-worthy, deliciously dense and full of charisma.
