94 / 100"The bouquet offers dark, dense, mocha fruit with a notable fruitcake spice presence; the palate is full and rich, almost brutish at first, but the fruit comes to the fore late in the piece while the charry oak also provides lift; has a harmonious finish."

"Deeply flavoured, this firmly structured, ripe and astringent shiraz reveals a briary, spicy bouquet whose deep scents of mulberries, dark cherries, blackberries and smoky vanilla/cedar oak are backed by nuances of dark olives. Brooding and deeply layered, with dark plum and berry flavours underpinned by drying, sinewy tannins, it is likely to flesh out with more fruit sweetness and roundness in the years ahead."

"An august wine that has all the flavour and power of your favourite shiraz but maintains an elegance and finesse and restraint that makes you yearn for more. Beautifully structured with a long finish. Surely, this is one of Australia’s best."

Tasting Notes
Borne out of an excellent vintage in the Barossa, this Stonewell has many years in front of it. Early on though, the wine is immensely full-bodied with notes of candied cherry, mocha and Christmas cake with a compliment of tannins that at first threaten to dominate, yet balance out wonderfully on the finish. Another remarkable Stonewell.
