Tasting Notes
The Gippsland comes with considerable vine age, of almost 20 years, and is dominated by the MV6 clone. The vines are on a slight north facing slope, and are cooled from the Bass Straight winds that have proven to also wreak havoc in spring at the pivotal times of flowering.
Philippa Farr grew up at Bannockburn in southern Victoria, “surrounded by people whose lives revolved around vineyards”. You get the sense that she was keen to forge her own path. She did vintage at Brokenwood in 2003, 2004 and 2005 but then pursued a farming career for the following few years. This career took her to Gippsland & the Mornington Peninsula Victoria, though through these years she did vintage at Bellvale, Bouzeron, DRC, Domaine Dujac, By Farr and Purple Hen. She had the pedigree, the understanding, the appreciation and the knowledge. She was living in a prime pinot noir region. It seems now inevitable that wines under her own name would follow.
