"Hand-picked over 5 days, whole berry plus 5% whole bunches, matured for 9 months in French barriques (30% new). There is some colour development, the bouquet with a savoury/spicy edge to the dark cherry of the bouquet, the palate that of serious pinot, powerful, layered and long. If imperious is a word that can be used in the context of high quality pinot noir, this wine is just that."

"From the Cooinda Vale vineyard, established in 1985, though the average vine age here is 18 years: old enough to vote. It's the new name for the wine formerly known as Coal River Pinot. Dried rose and tea leaf perfume, spice, cherries and plum. Light to medium bodied, silky, almost slippery texture and fine unobtrusive acidity, spiced dark cherry flavours with subtle peat and undergrowth underneath. Develops some of that 'mineral' feel as it relaxes in the glass. Slinks off on the finish somewhat, rather than making a grand exit, but its unforced feel and graceful character win me over"
- Gary Walsh

Tasting Notes

“Dense, dark burgundy with a purple rim. Initially appears incredibly fruity, with cherry, ripe strawberry and rhubarb. However, this makes way for a subtle perfume of rose oil and seasoned cedar. The palate is expansive and complex, again showing bright and rich red fruits and a complex array of spice. Cherry fruit, woody spice, minerality and textural, savoury tannins. The power and elegance are outstanding.” Anna Pooley-winemaker
