"espite the time-honoured name, the grapes in fact also come from Ebenezer and Kalimna. In vintage Rockford style, deceptively straightforward when it is in fact very complex. Part of the deception comes from the modest alcohol, below the Barossa average, and all the better for that. It weaves freshness with savoury, spicy, earthy red and black fruits."

"Invariably a good drink, is Moppa Springs. It’s a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. Walnut, ripe red fruits, floral, chocolate. Medium-bodied, savoury and nutty, with a core of fleshy red and black fruits, a layer of smooth tannin, even acidity, and a dusty finish of satisfying length. A little saline, certainly savoury, but has even-tempered charm and style."

Tasting Notes

There's absolutley no reason that Barossa GSM's don't command a bigger share of the Australian wine market, at least not a convincing one that I'm can come up with. It's a great blend and very comfortable (in a new-world context) at home in the Barossa. And in the capable hands of Rockford it's hard to argue with. Dark fruit, barrel spice, medium bodied, easy drinking but with enough guts to stand up to a hearty meal.
