Tasting Notes

This is a stunning single vineyard Semillon made 100% from the Blackberry vineyard, one of the region’s rare sandy soil vineyards that the very best Semillons are grown on.

A tight and refined wine with layers of citrus and lime peel. An elegant and long palate balanced by natural and pristine fruit flavours, built on a finely structured acid backbone.

"Semillon of the Year. 2023 is the 20th year that Liz Silkman has worked with the dry-grown Blackberry vineyard, planted on decomposed granite fragments and fine sandy loam. So, there is no surprise that this wine is a triumph. Astute winemaking allows the pristine, delicate nature of the fruit to shine. Zesty lemony aromas introduce a long, focused palate bursting with fresh citrus flavours. It is the perfect example of restrained power, with the core based on acidity. It is utterly gorgeous now, though it is poised for greatness with cellaring."

95 / 100

"In my notebook, beside this wine’s name, I wrote: “This wine is exquisite.” It’s elegant, poised and pebbly with a genuine juiciness to to the fruit and, interestingly for a young Hunter Valley, no shortage of texture. On the finish it extends far into the future and at all times it gives an impression of rolled gold quality."
