RunRig often draws comparison with the beautifully fragrant and tautly structured wines from the steep slopes of the Northern Rhône Valley’s Appellation of Côte Rôtie.

Scores

97 / 100

"It seems to odd to say that a 97-point wine wasn't showing particularly well, but that's how I felt about the 2009 RunRig. It shows all of the rich, silky plushness expected of RunRig but maybe just a bit less perfume, looking more like black cherries and mocha than raspberries and violets. I still wouldn't throw it out of bed for eating crackers."

96 / 100

"Inky purple. Displays room-filling scents of dark fruit preserves, oak spices, violet pastille, cola and licorice, with a cracked pepper nuance adding lift. Deeply concentrated boysenberry and cassis flavors reach every corner of the palate and show superb energy and clarity for their power. Intensely perfumed and appealingly sweet on the finish, which features substantial but integrated tannins and persistent floral and fruitcake qualities. Built for the long haul, no question, but there's a lot of upfront sex appeal here as well; you could drink it now without guilt--or perhaps just a twinge"

"This is larger than life, super concentrated, black-fruited, dark and essency shiraz, befitting of maker David Powell; whilst the concentration is staggering, the underlying tannins and freshness provides length, complexity and interest. Make no mistake this is big end of town, take no prisoners old vine shiraz pushed to the limit."
- James Halliday

95 / 100

"Polished, ripe and seamless, playing out its layers and layers of dark berry, cherry, black olive and spice flavors on a rich, supple frame. The finish picks up mint and cream notes as it lingers effortlessly. A study in depth and opulence."

Tasting Notes

Shiraz from old dry grown Barossa vineyards is blended with Viognier, complementing the strengths and complexities of these individual parcels of fruit, whilst giving the resulting wine a further dimension.

Although wonderfully aromatic, RunRig also exhibits a power and latent richness making it more akin to the hugely concentrated wines sourced from the sun drenched hill of Hermitage – the historic home of Syrah and some of the world’s most powerful and longest living wines.
