94 / 100"The Old Hillside is the vines around the Old Patch, that are not quite as old. These wines up on the mountainside have a distinct personality, not dissimilar to Old Paddock and Old Hill from Mount Pleasant. Obviously it’s all that ‘Old’ in the names that make it so. I wish there was an ‘Old Mate’ vineyard. Blackberry, violet, pretty and perfumed, but with a modest earthy bass, slight unripe strawberry acidity, especially on the finish, but flesh around it, and good length with a bit of tomato acidity. Length is good, mind you, Many good things, but perhaps a little too sappy? See how you go."

Tasting Notes
Sourced from the ‘Old Patch’. The Old Hillside Shiraz comes from the younger vines on the vineyard, which have an average age of 50 years. The fruit was handpicked and sorted in the vineyard before fermentation took place in our open-top vats. After fermentation, the wine was matured for 14 months in mostly newer 2500L French oak casks.
Elegant style of Shiraz that shows good balance between vibrant fruit and savoury spice, along with classic Hunter Valley wet earth. The oak is only a minor component and the tannins provide structure and depth on the back palate.
