Tasting Notes
Baettig is the family project of winemaker Francisco "Pancho" Baettig (Errázuriz) and Carlos de Carlos in Traiguén, some 600 kilometers south of Chile. They planted 15.4 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on volcanic soils in 2013 and the first wines are hitting the Ontario market for the first time now.
Baettig has planted nine hectares of pinot noir on the clayey soils of Traiguén, in the Malleco Valley. Fermentation has occurred in steel vats, to which 8% of the whole cluster has been added in an effort to give it structure and fruit. The aging has lasted for ten months in barrels, 10% new wood. And the result is a sweet strawberry juice, but fresh at the same time. It has a kind and creamy density; the flavors are deep and, although it is a serious wine, it is very easy to drink, its flavors are irresistible.
Violet red in color, the nose is very intense, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, blueberry, rose, hibiscus and violet. On the palate it is fresh and long, with juicy
