95 / 100"Fruit from vines planted in 1999. Picked over 12 days with three different ferments (destemmed and crushed, whole berry and whole bunches), 12 to 30 days on skins and 19 months in oak hogsheads (30% new). No fining. Bright crimson purple. Aromas of boysenberries, dark raspberries, star anise and a gentle waft of oak-derived cedar. Medium bodied, gently plush and silken, this is already a delight. 95 points. Tasting Notes
Our Shiraz (with the usual splash of Viognier) is a wine that continues to demonstrate the affinity of the variety with the Yarra Valley. From the outset, the nose offers a lively, lifted array of aromas - blueberry, violet, black pepper, liquorice and bay leaf. The palate, fresh and energetic, is both perfumed and delicate but then also supple, fleshy and generous. The underlying depth and savoury, structured richness that drives the finish is quietly there now, and over the next 10 or more years it will come to the fore. – Sandra de Pury
